Hoar had seven projects recognized by ABC Alabama at its November award banquet.

Eagle Awards

Jackson State Community College Allied Health Building (Institutional $10-25 million) — We completed work on a 45,900 square foot, two-story facility that will host Jackson State Community College’s allied health programs. In addition to the new construction, 10,400 square feet of renovations were made to the McWherter Center and Walter Nelms classrooms. Upgrades were also made to the biology and microbiology lab rooms as well as computer labs, conference and office space.

Lynnhaven Mall (Renovation $10-100 million) — We completed a 145,000 square feet renovation including an expansion of a new food court, the demolition of a 100,000 square foot parking garage and repurposing a vacant mall anchor with main street retail.

 Merit Awards

Avalon Phase II (Commercial $10-25 million) –After Avalon Phase I opened to the public in early 2015, we began a new phase of development that included an additional 90,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. The expansion included a new parking deck, five retail shells and a fitness park transforming Avalon into a massive retail and mixed use destination.

Mountain Lakes Medical Center (Healthcare $10-25 million) –This new state-of-the-art healthcare facility nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeast Georgia replaces the outdated one built in the 1970s. The 67,000 square foot critical access hospital includes 25 outpatient beds and brings much-needed healthcare advancement to the rural community of Clayton.

Historic Federal Reserve (Historical Renovation, less than $25 million) –Built in the 1920s, the Birmingham branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta sat vacant for 14 years and fell into disrepair. In 2014 the property was bought with the vision to bring the facility back to life. We were then brought in to help renovate and preserve a piece of Birmingham’s history and secure crucial tax credits and grant funds.

Abilene Christian University Science Facilities (Institutional $10-25 million) –This three-phase project included an exterior renovation to the current science facility, landscaping redevelopment of the science quad and a ground-up science laboratory building. Through precise planning and excellent trade partner relationships, total design and construction was completed in an impressive 20 months, with more than $1 million in savings returned to the owner to be reinvested in future campus projects.

Abilene Christian University Wildcat Stadium (Institutional $25-100 million) –In fall of 2017 ACU students, student-athletes and coaches enjoyed the first football season inside the new 12,000-seat NCAA Division I FCS football stadium that has become the focal point for a campus community known for its close-knit atmosphere. The stadium also includes a five-story press box, 10-luxury suites, club room, home and visiting locker room facilities, restrooms and concessions.

ENR and Building Design + Construction Awards

ACU’s Science Facilities and Wildcat Stadium were also awarded top honors by the ABC of Greater Houston at its awards banquet in October. The ACU Science Facilities won the top ICE award in the Institutional <$50 million category, and ACU Wildcat Stadium won the top ICE award in the Commercial Construction – Other category.

ABC of Greater Florida awarded Info Tech at Celebration Pointe a first-place Eagle Award in the Commercial $10-20 million category this fall. The 65,000 square foot office building located in the heart of the Celebration Pointe mixed use development opened for business in the spring.

ENR also recognized two projects: the Historic Federal Reserve was named a Best Projects Merit Award winner by ENR Southeast and the ACU Science Facilities was named a Best Projects Merit Award winner by ENR Texas & Louisiana.

In addition, Historic Federal Reserve was also awarded a Bronze Reconstruction Award from Building Design + Construction and recognized in its November 2017 edition.
